Selected Publications
Mr. Atkins is a prolific author of design and construction industry publications. Beginning with Dallas Construction Industry Practices, which he co-developed with the Dallas Associated General Contractors, to his extensive authorship of articles in The Architect’s Handbook of Professional Practice, 10th, 13th, 14th and 15th Editions, his written work addresses vital areas of design, construction, and risk management. He also provided construction phase articles for The Emerging Professional’s Companion, an online resource for training architects and preparing them for the Architect’s Registration Exam. His multi-year tenure as a Contributing Editor for AIA’s national publication, AIArchitect, resulted in the book, Managing Project Risk: Best Practices for Architects and Related Design Professionals.
His work on projects in international venues resulted in chairing the AIA International Committee in 2017 and his work as Executive Editor of The AIA Global Practice Primer, a resource for American architects doing business in international venues. He continues to provide cogent articles on relevant design and construction issues through The AIA Trust and other national, state, and regional industry publications.
The articles and books listed below are representative of Jim’s contributions as a leading resource of relevant industry publications.
